Shadow Movie directed by Szabó Réka after the Kassel Documentary Film and Video Festival is in program of EDIT International Dance Film Festival in turn starts at 8pm 16 November (Wednesday) in Kino (Budapest XIII. Szent István krt. 16.)
The best of the Hungarian contemporary dance scene will show you how to take dance out into the open, into the sites of our everyday lives, into different urban spaces.
This years’ Dance Commando is a co-production between three professional Hungarian dance companies: Bloom!, HODWORKS and The Symptoms. The dramaturg of this extraordinary performance walk is Petra Ardai, co-founder and director of Space theatre company from The Netherlands. 24-25-26 August 2011
“Performed to thudding jazz, the piece plays out a waking dream shot
through with bizarre terrors. Half-glimpsed tableaux reminiscent of
David Lynch’s film Eraserhead morph into surreal ballroom sequences in
swimsuits and spats that pay homage to Pina Bausch. Vignettes of pain,
fear and sadness swim dreamily against a lighting track of eye-popping
strangeness. Extraordinary.” (Luke Jennings, The Guardian)
Only the keen focus of the audience as it zooms in on a selected detail can make sense of the chaos whirling between the beginning and the end. In theater, as in everyday life, you will miss everything if you want it all. The fabric of the whole is made up of personal confessions by the actors, from which each member of the audience may in turn “create” his or her own version of the performance.
At the 2010 Dance Festival in the city of Veszprém, the piece won the award for Most Daring
Concept.
From Scratch takes as its vantage point our trifle gestures,
insignificant clichés, and commonplace daily routine, processing them in
a collage of scenes. Each of the brief episodes that make up the
performance gives us a different glimpse of the consumer society —
simplified, stylized, and magnified in a unique, multi-generic language
that mingles dance, absurd comedy, and pantomime. The piece has
collected several awards at festivals around Hungary and has toured to
great accolades in Europe.
