We created a show for you. It tells about the last 30 years of independent performing arts in Hungary. The journey that we started as underground and alternative, and we want to continue as independent. We want to be independent from the system, but the system changes from time to time, and independence has its price. And we all just fight next to each other, each and every one of us in their own „studio” – we fight for our existence… It would be so great to meet for a while. To scream, wonder, laugh, say out loud, think it all over.
The Symptom’s new piece is different from the other ones. The three founding members: Réka Szabó, Dániel Szász and István Gőz, have been working together for 15 years, and now they offer the history of the company as a starting point to understand one’s own situation – both in the micro and the macro environment. How do you continue working when the company’s symptoms are equal to the whole country’s symptoms? The story of independent artists belongs to everyone who have lost references. This new piece reveals the symptoms of collective burnout, with the company’s well-known self-irony and humour.
Our past, present and futurelessness are symbolic.
