Contemporary Dance School
The social participation has always played an important role in the work of The Symptoms. We find it especially important to reach out to the adolescents and people in their twenties to with the cause of drawing their attention to the contemporary art and dance scene. In December 2009 we launched our programme designed for college students. In the course of three theatre seasons we succeeded to play at approximately 50 schools in Budapest, on the countryside and in Hungarian schools on the other side of the border, introducing 1800-1900 students to the world of theatre and creating a personal and lasting experience.
Our program designed for the students partaking in secondary or higher education involves two parts, which take place at a different time and place, but are united by the same idea. The first part involves a special school activity, while the second one consists of visiting a theater that is followed by a discussion.
In the course of a few hours the members of the ensemble in the presence of a coordinator show their methods and techniques to the students and thus sheding insight into the basics of contemporary dance.
That is followed by attending a play showcased by the The Symptoms. The theatre attending takes place after the talk, thus enabling the students to understand in practicality what they have already learnt about.
In the 2011-2012 season The Symptoms have launched the second step of their introductory classes. Students voluntarily participate in workshops, working together in smaller groups, enabling everyone to come up with their own ideas and show their personality.
